Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. Nothing is official yet but it's said Mitch will join Manly after being given permission by Broncos to sign with another club. He has also been attracted interest from the Eels.

Hooker. Cameron Smith got his first taste in origin in 2003 and has played all 3 games of the series since 2004. The Maroon 9 has been his for over a decade. Everyone thought this was the year he would lose it but it won’t be. Smith has been in good form for storm who currently sit 2nd. There are a few players that are lining up to replace Smith once he draws the curtains on his representative career. Two players who have been mentioned for awhile are Brisbane’s Hooker Andrew McCullough and Roosters Premiership winning rake Jake Friend. I always thought it was going to be Brisbane's Andrew that got the Maroon 9 jersey but in recent years Friend has over taken him. His become one of the games best hookers. BUT both might be behind Penrith’s James Segeyaro. Who has been an absolute star the last couple of seasons. He has ditched PNG ( :( ) in the hopes of playing origin. My dark horse would be Jake Granville. Exciting young player very fast and very talented. He is developing combinations with JT and Morgan (a future maroon). So he could slot in right now with JT or in the future because Morgan will be there. 2015: Smith 2016 : Smith 2017: Any of the 4 youngsters I mentioned Looking further into the future ....Jayden Nikorima Front Row QLD will have a whole new foward pack soon. Matt Scott has been in decent form but Nate Myles has really been low on confidence it seems. Also it looks as tho David Shillington’s career is at an end and Ben Hannant really hasn't been mentioned much. It looks certain that either or both Josh McGuire and Dylan Napa will be in the team somewhere. Both have been in brilliant form. Josh Papalii could play upfront. He will be in the squad somewhere probably on the bench. A bloke that could get a chance is David Tyrrell the unsung hero for Rabbits. He is hard working and a tough player. If Mal was to give him a maroon jumper he wouldn’t let him down. Looking forward to the future there’s plenty of talent to pick from. Korbin Sims , Mitchell Dodds, Jarrod Wallace , Joe Ofahengaue , Francis Molo , Tim Glasby , Dunamis Lui , Lloyd Perrett , Luke Bateman and Martin Kennedy ***. This list goes on 2015 : Scott and Myles 2016 : McGuire and Napa Second Row and Lock Thaiday has been in career best form. At the start of the season people said Sam wouldn't even be in contention for State of Origin . Now he is the first name you’d write on the team sheet. Accompanying him in the second row will be Brisbane team mates Matt Gillett and Corey Parker at lock. Aidan Guerra could replace Matt in the starting lineup but might be on the bench having just come back from an injury. Other contenders are Cowboys Gavin Cooper and Ethan Lowe both have been playing very well as of late. Cooper could get a spot on the bench this year. As I said before Josh Papalii will be in the team somewhere. Also even tho they have not been performing Premiership winner Chris McQueen and Titan Dave Taylor are still in contention. Across the Tasman as always veteran Jacob Lillyman could see himself in the team . Young players coming through include Corey Oates , Luke Bateman , Jai Arrow , Patrick Mago , Blake Leary and Jayson Bukuya. 2015 : Thaiday , Gillett and Parker 2017: McQueen , Oates and Papalii What do you think ?? Who will get selected this year and beyond ? Nate Myles has signed a three-year deal with Manly from 2016.
Manly will be his 4th club. DCE blackflip to come ?? Halves. Even tho youngster like Ben Hunt , Anthony Milford and Daley Cherry-Evans are making a strong case for origin. The halves will be Johnathan Thurston and Cooper Cronk. QLD will stay loyal to the players that helped achieve the record breaking streak. Cronk and JT are still the best halves in the game after all . Hunt and DCE still have a chance to play origin this year , it’s highly likely one will get a spot on the bench. It’s been Queensland’s system for years. When the halves were Lockyer and JT , Cronk was on the Bench. When Cronk succeeded Locky in partnering JT in the Halves ,,, DCE was on the bench. DCE will probably get the spot on the bench this year despite Hunt and Milford playing well for Brisbane. Tho DCE and Hunt are likely to succeed JT and Cronk in the halves once the veterans retire there are still other options QLD could look at. Michael Morgan is one option, even as early as this year. If Cronk got injured Morgan could be something QLD could look at. Having the Cowboys combination would probably be better than having JT and DCE. That’s Negative thinking tho. Morgan is a young talented player that is a good chance to play for QLD sometime in the near future. Greg Inglis is another option he can play anywhere. Other options QLD could explore in the future are Brisbane’s Jayden Nikorima and Melbourne’s Kurt Mann. Both are talented young players that are heading for NRL stardom. Corey Norman ?? Has he pledge allegiance to QLD or Kiwis ?? Can anyone tell me. He is a really talented young player. He could easily grab himself a QLD jumper or a Kiwi one. There is a small chance he could be leaving Eels with Foran heading to Parramatta in 2016. Corey could sign with the Gold Coast Titans and form a combination with DCE..... and BOOM there’s ya next QLD halves. http://mattssportal.weebly.com/nrl/corey-normans-future 2015: JT and Cronk 2016: I think they still will be there. Maybe not for all 3 games tho. 2017: Ben Hunt and DCE. Although Hunt really needs to work on his kicking game. He struggles to find space. OR 2017: Norman and DCE.... Who do you think will be in the halves this year and beyond ? Please comment below !! Wingers and CentresIn 2014 QLD had Darius Boyd and Brent Tate on the wings (Will Chambers in for Tate in game 3) and Justin Hodges and Greg Inglis in the centres. I think it will be the same this year but way different next year. Centres: This year Greg Inglis and Justin Hodges will most likely be picked to play in the centres unless Slater is out . If Billy is unavailable for origin that would see Greg swift to fullback so QLD will need to select someone to fill GI shoes in the centres. Selectors need to start looking towards the future. It’s highly likely in 2016 we will have completely new centres. Justin has announced his retirement from rep footy and Greg Inglis will be playing fullback because it looks likes Slaters elite days are behind him. So what are the options ?? Dane Gagai and Will Chambers. These for me should be first on everybody’s list. Will got his first taste of origin last year while Dane is yet to pull on a maroon jersey. Both are star players that can finish and create chances. Dale Copley is another. I thought he was amazing last year an absolute star. Copley got a chance in the centres when Jack Reed was dropped for disciplinary reasons and he bloody nailed it. He has really beefed up the last few years. I think he will get his first taste of origin on the wing. I do admit he hasn’t hit the form this year which is displayed in 2014 but he will only get better with time. So this year the centres will be (in my opinion ) Hodges and Greg Inglis. If Slater is out.... Will Chambers and Justin Hodges 2016 Chambers and Gagai. 2020 Copley and Gagai Wingers:
Darius Boyd returns for Broncos this weekend so he will be ready for origin. He will resume his usual spot on the wing but the other is up for grabs. Another factor that may decide the 2nd winger is if Slater is fit for Origin. Will Chambers played on the wing last year but if GI is required at Fullback chambers will most likely play in the centres. So the wing spot will go to someone else. So apart from giving NRL star centres Chambers , Gagai or Copley the 2nd wing spot. Who else could Mal pick?? A player that was mentioned last year but not so much this year and one of my favourite players. .... Daniel Vidot. He is beast. He isn't just a great player he brings a special energy to the team. Just watching the team it feels different when he plays. He gets ya pumped up ... Like Wendell or Willie Mason. I realize it’s a long shot for him because his barely played NRL this year and the fact that he plays for Samoa( Not that that’s a major issue). I’m sure Josh McGuire will be selected for QLD this year despite playing for Samoa last weekend. Who else? I’d like to give Lachlan Maranta a mention. I know alot of people would disagree with me but I think if Lachlan was given the chance he would not disappoint. He isn't a superstar but he is a hard working reliable player. Every team needs players like that, You can’t have a team full of Benjis and Lockyers. It just wouldn't work ( No one could land a tackle ;) ). I’d let Maranta catch a high ball to save my life. I trust him that much. It’s just a thought guys. Valentine Holmes is another possibility .He WILL land himself a spot on the wing in the near future. Before maybe he gets the QLD number 1 jersey sometime in the future. Other youngsters that people mention are Edrick Lee and Justin O'Neill. In my opinion Kurt Mann is a better prospect. Kurt applies his trade down at the Melbourne Storm. He plays centre/Fullback/Halves but I think if he was offered a wing spot for QLD I don’t think he would say no. I love watching Kurt play and I know he has a lot more to offer. He will only get better over time. Nene Macdonald and Tautau Moga are players the could easily push for origin in the future but it depends on if the NRL tighten up the eligibility rules or not. Nene is born in PNG and has played for them. Tautau was born in Brisbane but has played for Samoa. At the end of the day it's up to the players where they pledge their allegiance... both are talented enough to play origin. ........................... So this year I give Chambers and Boyd the thumbs up. If Chambers is required in the centres then Gagai should get his first taste of origin. 2016 Boyd and Copley. If Greg Inglis leaves to union or is unavailable 1.Boyd 2. Copley 3. Chambers 4. Gagai 5. Holmes 2020 Holmes and Mann What do you guys think ?? Who would you have as your wingers and centres this year and beyond ?? Comment below I think I might be a tad biased towards Broncos players and my favs ;) Over the course of the week i will be looking at QLD's options for this year and the future. Instead of just naming a team and being done with it. I will go through each position and discuss what should happen this year and beyond. Starting with FullbackThe obvious choices are Billy Slater and Greg Inglis. Slater is on his way out. He barely plays and when he does he just isn't the player he once was. Greg Inglis the last few years has been hailed by many as the best player in the game. Recently... during the rabbits poor run of form ,GI has been struggling to make a impact on the game. Personally I think he is carrying a injury. He doesn't look 100% and isn’t fully committed to what he does. It could just be a bit of fear creeping into his game with an ageing body.
GI is widely tipped to succeed Slater in the QLD and Australian Number 1 jersey. I think he will. In time i’m sure GI will return to the top of his game. But let’s explore some other options just in case GI isn’t available in the future ... because of form , injury or he isn’t in the code ........... A few years ago everyone would of been screaming Ben Barba ....... Well in light of recent events that’s highly unlikely to happen. Barba struggled last year for Broncos and just as he was starting to gain confidence towards the end of the year... He left to join Sharks . In turn hitting the reset button. He is back to where he was at the beginning of 2014 perhaps even worse . The best choices would have to be in Brisbane .Boyd a premiership winning fullback and his Broncos team mate Milford who is currently directing the Brisbane team around the park with Ben hunt. Boyd has played over 20 origins out of position* he would be right at home for QLD at fullback. Further north at the Cowboys you have Michael Morgan and recent recruit Jake Granville . Morgan was a star in 2014 after shifting to fullback to cover for the injured Lachlan Coote. He was called into Camp as QLD's 18th man in the 3rd game last year because of the year he was having. I have big raps on Granville I can really see him getting a maroons jumper sometime in the future . It was bitter sweet losing him to cowboys ... i really wanted him in the Broncos but I knew he wouldn't get the opportunity he deserves for a man of his talent. Jake is quick, agile, a great tackler and a match winner!! Valentine Holmes from the Sharks will surely get a QLD jumper some time in the future. He will get decent NRL time this season and will only get better . Holmes is a very exciting prospect for the future. Cameron Munster is another exciting youngster .. With limited NRL experience only time will tell if he can compete at the top level week in and week out. Who knows we could see him in a QLD jersey in the future. A lot of people keep throwing Zillman's name around ... Heaps of people actually name him in their QLD side. I honestly think he will never get picked (Unless it's under extreme circumstances ) So this year It will be either Billy Slater or Greg Inglis. (unless injuries). In 2016 to 2020 It will be Greg Inglis . If he is injured or leave rugby league it should be Boyd or Milford (if Darius is unavailable) 2020 + Holmes , Morgan Do you agree ?? If not who do you se being picked this year and beyond .... Please comment below or tweet me :) @mattmanormazoku @Matt93Aitchison After signing young Titans five-eighth Aiden Sezer the Raiders continued to raid the competition for new players. James Tamou is expected to be released from his contract with North Queensland Cowboys to join the Green Machine in 2016. Also recent reports suggest Joseph “BJ” Leilua is headed to the country’s capital in 2016. Although BJ is contracted to the Newcastle Knights in 2016 he signed the contact with a clause that allows him to request a release if Master coach Wayne Bennett should move on. (Which he did .... Wayne is coaching Broncos). So in reality BJ is basically a free agent able to test his market value. |
